AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

The Chatter Box

~
Sunday Scribblings prompt ~ telephone
~
Locked into walls
And plugs
And wires
The telephone
Was once the hive
To bubble and squeak
~
But now
Landline
Is
The buzz word for
That antiquated
Means of transport ~
Definitely
The lower means of travel
~
Mobiles or
Cellphones
Are the real way
The cool way
To wing the clouds ~
Unwired
Unplugged
Hands free
~
Contactable
Reachable
Anywhere
Any time
~
But I wonder
Does that mean
We have more freedom
Or less?
~

A good question. I'd say less.

No question - less! No way I will be a slave to a little shiny box!

Less freedom Definitely! I can't even
go shoe shopping in peace anymore, without be tracked down by my family of hounds!
cute poem Gemma!

I still haven't bought one, but I should think that it could make one more free in some ways and less in other ways.

Nice poem.

I feel we are slaves to it now!

indolence?

The poem was terrific. Loved it. Liked it when you said 'Lower means of travel'. More freedom or less? definitely a good thought to ponder.

I'm amazed at the number of people who don't realise their mobile phones can be switched OFF, and that there is a silent setting. We don't have to be slaves to them. I leave mine silent most of the day, and check messages when it suits me. But the world seems to have switched to mobile. Very few people call me on my landline any more. I'm considering getting rid of it, and going entirely mobile - if I was sure I could trust the internet access!

I'm joining the quasi-consensus of "less" freedom. I've seen the cell phone become a leash so many times. That said, my cell phone is my primary number, with the land line primarily being a venue for political surveys and other unwelcome nuisances. I guess it's complicated.
