AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Change Hurts

Sunday Scribblings prompt #136 ~ Change
~

Sometimes change hurts
~
Even though it must be ~
It must be time
To move on ~
Change hurts
~
Giving over lifetimes to
Relentless
Rusted
Gaping bowels
Breeds relief
Laced with tears
~

We have no home
No bricks and mortar with our name tag
So when someone wants to reclaim
Their property

(Our borrowed home)
It must be time for us
To move on
~
Change means a fresh beginning
A new day
A new horizon
I know ~
Sometimes I feel it ~
But underneath
Change hurts
~

~
It is good
(In a sense)
To unburden festering tokens of memory
Even if the real reason is
We are tired of re-packing them
(I am tired of re-packing them) in
Bland brown
Faceless boxes
~

Within a few weeks of tomorrows
We will see
A new landscape of furnishings
A new landscape of waters
~
I keep seeing
The sign
Someone left
On our new lounge room window
I believe in Angels
~
And tucked away
Beneath our new
High verandah
Someone left
A string of tiny
Tibetan prayer flags
~
It must be time
To let the books ~
The many books ~
Go
~

Obama-blissed as many of us are up here, it's nice to see a different take on the prompt, your meditation and pictures. For readers and writers, the giving up / throwing away of books can be an utterly strange, but sometimes highly liberating, point of departure.

change is more often than not born of pain and loss... i hope as a nation we americans are up to enduring such.. i fear we are not.. this poem makes me wish we could all read this....

Change is hard. Few of us welcome any shift from our warm cocoon. Your new home, though, offers signs of promise. I loved this poem, and your accompanying photos.

Choose wisely what you discard. Next week you may be needing it. This kind of change can be painful. It also can be liberating. I love the photos with which you illustrated this, especially the inclusion of the bouquets of flowers.

Enjoy your new home! I hope it will prove to be a very happy change!

Change for better or worse - the pain is always in the transition, but the outcome can go either way.

This kind of change is hardest of all, but there is relief in letting go. BJ

This is wonderful. Beautiful and sad all at once. I hope the adventures you find in your new home will heal the pain of treasures lost.

I liked your take on this prompt. I moved to Canberra from country NSW nearly 8 mths ago and found it hard to throw away books. The ones Most are still packed in boxes, I haven't needed them. Most of them were books belonging to the kids, that they loved having read to them when they were little and I couldn't bear to part with that memory. I also liked that the new place you went to was littered with someone else's charms, left in a strange way for you to share.

I hope your new home brings contentment, and a place where your treasures can finally find rest.

Love the way your skip pics illustrate the text, especially the way the plastic flowers are resting peacefully in this open grave!
