Australia Day ~ 26th January 2009 ~ That's My World

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Yesterday was Australia Day. A perfect summer's day with gentle, cooling breeze!
The focus for the day was community spirit and casual pleasure.
Celebrations in Dromana, Mornington Peninsula began early morning with a community breakfast at Dromana beach.
Then there were all forms of family entertainment beachside and the more formal citizenship ceremony held under a giant marquee.
Many school students' works were displayed like this mural.

Interesting how everyone place has a different set of holidays: you don't know a place until you understand the rhythms of the holidays that the people celebrate.

And always the blue skies and the sea...you are very fortunate to live by the sea. That is one thing I dearly miss about florida, the smell of the ocean. I can smell it the minute I drive across the state line, salty, brine air with the glorious hint of orange blossom...ahhh paradise on Earth.

It looks like everyone is enjoying celebrating the wonderful land down under in the warm summer sun. We are all still realling in a world of HOPE hear in the states. A time for pride all over this big beautiful blue ball and hopefully we can be the cure.

Big hugs friend...s

What fun!

I feel as if I have been to a summer fair - which really was nice, as the temperature is exactly zero (F) here today.

Thanks for the ride.

Gemma, your pictures are so inviting. It looks like everyone is having a nice time. And the warmth that's emitted from each one makes me wish for summer.

I also wanted to say I love the picture of the cockatoo's below. Their eyes do seem to make another face entirely. Thanks for sharing your world. It's beautiful. Have a nice night.

Looks so warm and sunny. We are freezing here!! But.... news flash: I'm heading your way very shortly, well to New Zealand (at least the same hemisphere). More about that later on my blog (you are the first blogger to know)!
