AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Winding Uphill

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Oliver's Hill overlooking Port Phillip Bay at Frankston, Mornington Peninsula
~
Carry on Tuesday #64 ~ This week our prompt is the opening line of Christina Georgina Rossetti’s poem Uphill:
Does the road wind uphill all the way?
+
One Single Impression #127 ~ Cocoon

+
Writer's Island 2010 ~ Prompt #14 ~ The Journey
~

If a road plains gently
Straight and clear
Before it climbs
(Like psyching up the strength to struggle)
Is it possible that there may be
Some diversion
To fragment the climb

Some resting place
Some comic relief
To cocoon courage
To weigh memories and
Plan new ones
(Attempting to avoid the potholes)

Or
Does the road wind uphill all the way
Like a relentless
Taskmaster
Driving
Sheep

Like the journey of
Programmed destiny

Fab photo. Those houses are in such a great spot.

I particularly like these lines:

Some resting place
Some comic relief
To cocoon courage

And it is not only because I am unable to walk any great distance, but because I believe these are all essentials in any journey, especially the one through ones own inner swamplands.

Thank you for this one,
Elizabeth

Programmed destiny doesn't sound a very exciting journey - give me the diversions... even the potholes.

"Like psyching up the strength to struggle": I understand where you're coming from here. Long straight flat roads are boring, whereas life is much more interesting with twists and turns, ups and downs.

I think the journey of life does have places to rest, if we look. It is not all just an up hill struggle. Your poem begs for introspection. Well done.

Nanaste my friend, this is a wonderful woven poem. I like your use of several prompts at once. I can never seem to do this.

Well done.

I agree with Stan - programmed destiny seldom happens! Lots of good about this poem, though. Hard work to climb up, feel the need for rest and laughter. Well written, I enjoyed! Namaste!
