Strange how the cockatoos on the verandah cast shadows but no shadow from the one in flight

How lovely to see these birds flying wild!
Great shadow shot.
Such wonderful captures, Gemma! I, too, find it very interesting that there is no shadow for the bird in flight???? They are such beautiful birds!! Hope you're enjoying a lovely weekend!

The avian in flight is not standing still like the earthbound pair. Thus, no dust gathers on him...the shade does cover him, the incessant flapping could not eliminate said shadow. Cool!
They are beautiful and that is a fascinating observation.
What a splendid ShadowShot! I'm jealous that you have cockatoos flying around wild. Wow!! Happy SSS.
Those are beautiful birds..lovely to see someplace warm when we are cold and gray
What an interesting combination in this shot....
He must be quite high off the ground not to cast a shadow from that angle!
It amazes me to see birds like that in the wild. Great shot!
Magic, it has to be magic!
EVERYWHERE SHADOWS
Shadows above and shadows below,
Shadows that blaze and shadows that glow;
Shadows outside and shadows indoors,
Shadows on trees and shadows on floors;
Everywhere shadows calling my name,
Everywhere shadows no one can tame.

beautiful birds and I'm still wondering how the one in flight has lost his shadow
Beautiful shadows, lovely birds.
It blows my mind that you have these wonderful creatures out on your deck! But, yes, it does seem strange that the one in flight doesn't seem to have a shadow.
yes, yes, what a great shot!
Movement in a picture rocks!
You got a great flutter of wings there and a moment later you might have got a shadow, but not that
wonderful wing performance!
oh dear, I love love love this photo. it's perfect! great timing Gemma. shadows or no, it's an excellent shot and I'm happy you got it. happy week to you.
Perfect timing, the perfect position to capture it and wonderful subject (I really like cockatoos). We have a flock visit the neighbours walnut trees every year just as they are ripening and their antics are hilarious. I'm not too sure if dropping walnuts on our rooftop is accidental....:)
This is really amazing. I certainly would have thought the one in flight would definitely have left a shadow. Light just does its own thing. Like the way you were able to show us the motion of the wings. They are going in one direction and the shadows of the other two are going in the other. Interesting. The yellow on the wing is lovely. genie
